Golden State Warriors NBA Draft: 4 players to watch in March Madness
By Tony Pesta
3. Vernon Carey – Duke
Next on our list is a chiseled big man from Duke. Vernon Carey is having a strong freshman season for the Blue Devils and will be a factor in the tournament.
Carey has a great physical build and is agile on his feet. It is unclear if he will be able to defend NBA level forwards but his agility is a promising aspect of his game. At 240 pounds, Carey has more than enough muscle to hold down the paint.
This season, Carey has put up 17.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. He is finishing nearly 60 percent of his field-goal attempts and shoots a clean 40.0 percent from the 3-point line.
It should be noted that he is not a high volume shooter, only attempting 20 deep shots this season. However, there is a reason for optimism that he can be a reliable shooter in the NBA if he continues to develop his outside touch.
Duke will be looking to make history once again this year and Carey may be their best shot at winning the title.
