Cons
The fact of the matter is, Obi Toppin will likely never be a superstar. His ceiling doesn’t appear to be very high and he is one of the older prospects in the draft due to his redshirt season and two playing years. At 22 years of age, Toppin is older than most current sophomore NBA players.
This will help Toppin be an effective player earlier in his career but limit his overall potential. What we are currently seeing from Toppin is a good indication of everything he will be in the future.
He may become an elite offensive player but his defense is questionable. Despite having strong athleticism, he is flat-footed on the other end of the floor and will need to be surrounded by good defensive teammates to keep him active.
Toppin also has to prove that he can play at the NBA level. His production could be a result of his extra experience at the collegiate level. Once the competition increases, will Toppin rise to the challenge? This is a risk that teams will have to take when it comes to drafting Toppin.
