Golden State Warriors: 3 low-cost point guards to target in free agency
Shabazz Napier
Once an iconic college basketball phenom, Shabazz Napier has seen limited success at the next level. He can still shoot well and has solid playmaking tendencies, but Napier typically is the focal point of an offense.
Not necessarily an issue, Napier is set to become a free agent this upcoming offseason. He’s averaging a career-high 10.3 points per game this season and is shooting 41.2% from the field, the second-best percentage of his career.
He’s also notching 5.0 assists per game in just over 24 minutes of play. His uptick in minutes is helped by John Wall’s absence. Wall will miss all of the season, opening a door for Napier to shine as a top option for a depleted Wizards offense.
Napier may get the Seth Curry treatment and find his way on the bench of a contender on a low-value deal. While the Warriors may want Napier to sign for less than he could elsewhere, they’d also offer him something he had at UCONN, a chance to win.
All three are good options, but if the Warriors opt for a veteran backup point guard, they’ll likely only snag one of the three if any at all.
