2021 first-round draft pick
In the trade that brought in Andrew Wiggins and sent away D’Angelo Russell, the Golden State Warriors were also able to secure the Minnesota Timberwolves 2021 first-round pick.
While it is top-three protected, it should be a hot commodity if the Warriors want to trade it.
The Warriors seemed to prefer next season’s draft due to the lack of depth in the 2020 draft. They most likely could’ve secured either pick for Russell, a player the Wolves were craving ever since this past offseason.
Without the cap to take in new players, the Warriors would have to couple the pick with Wiggins to bring in a player that would truly be a perfect fit.
Without knowing the true fit of Russell, the Warriors will likely waste no time pulling the trigger on a trade if they don’t feel Wiggins is a quality fit. That said, as trade talks amplify this offseason, that 2021 pick should hold a good bit of value.
