It could be in the Golden State Warriors to trade their 2020 first-round pick, and that could set them up for three first-round picks in 2021.

The Golden State Warriors are primed to continue their dominance in the NBA for quite some time. This one down year may have been exactly what they needed to continue to be a powerhouse for a decade to come.

Why? Well, it’s because the Golden State Warriors now have leverage.

They’ll have a top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. With James Wiseman and LaMelo Ball not the players the Warriors are searching for, Anthony Edwards may be their prime target. Even then, the Warriors may opt to trade their pick.

Not needing any pieces to be a key contender in 2020, the Warriors could easily secure another 2021 first-round pick.

After all, Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond are the three-headed monster that started their dynasty, and they’ll have ample help to get back to the Finals with Eric Paschall and Andrew Wiggins.

This team should trade back, whether it be to future drafts or just later in the lottery. If they trade back and acquire a 2021 first-round pick along with a late lottery pick, they could be looking at three first-round picks in 2021.

That’d be a franchise-altering draft. With a talented class full of potential current high school stars looking to come out after their freshman season at college, the Warriors will have three chances to get it right.

While all the talent might not be the same later in the lottery next season, with at least the Wolves’ first-round pick, the Warriors will be looking at a potential lottery selection.

Combine another lottery pick and their pick and you have a slew of selections that could bring them either future picks or a superstar-caliber player, something the Warriors have been great at drafting later in the lottery.

That said, why not trust their instincts? Unless they’re truly enamored with Edwards, they should trade back, snag a third 2021 first-round pick and continue their winning ways with a stacked future ahead.
