Golden State Warriors: Trae Young says he will surpass Stephen Curry
By Tony Pesta
Trae Young has set a major goal to surpass Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors as the best shooter in the NBA.
On The Big Podcast with Shaquille O’Neal, Trae Young stated he plans on passing the Golden State Warriors superstar, Stephen Curry, as the NBA’s best 3-point shooter. This is a bold statement from the sophomore sharpshooter.
Young has been receiving comparisons to Curry since before he reached the league. A sniper with the ball in his hands, Young became a top pick in the 2018 NBA Draft due to his prolific shooting season in Oklahoma.
Since being drafted by the Atlanta Hawks, Young has only increased his stardom. Finishing as runner up for Rookie of the Year, Young set franchise records for points (49) and assists (17) by a player in his first season.
As a sophomore, Young is averaging an absurd 29.6 points and 9.3 assists per game. This is far better than the 18.6 points and 5.8 assists that Curry posted in his second season. Furthermore, Young has drilled a total of 205 shots from deep in just 60 games this year. This is more than Curry did in any of his first three seasons.
However, Curry still holds a strong advantage when being compared to Young. Curry has been the league’s best shooter for more than half of a decade while Trae is only getting started. It is way too early to claim Young will surpass the two-time MVP.
Curry is one of a kind. His 402 total 3-pointers in 2015-16 will stand as the record for a long time and it is unlikely anyone will ever pass that mark while shooting an efficient 45 percent from deep again.
Young has a bright future and may someday become the league’s most deadly shooter but Curry isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Watch out for a revenge tour next season from Curry.
