Killian Hayes

A 6-foot-4 18-year-old guard from France, Killian Hayes has been climbing up draft boards at an unprecedented rate.

After more than tripling his points per game to 7.2 in his second season with Cholet, a team in the French league, Hayes is projected to be a late lottery pick with a boom comparison to Goran Dragic. He’s given a bust comparison to Shane Larking.

The one that made those comparisons, Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman, continued on with his draft analysis of Hayes.

“If he reaches his ceiling, Hayes will follow in Goran Dragic’s footsteps, compensating for his athletic limitations with scoring and passing skills and craftiness. Worst case, he’s another Shane Larkin: too inefficient offensively for a guard who can only play on the ball,” Wasserman wrote.

For the second unit, playing on the ball sounds exactly like Golden State would want him to do, leading the team alongside Jordan Poole.

That said, during that second season, he shot just 19% from three, but during his ten-game stint with Ratiopharm Ulm, Hayes was 16-for-41 from deep, showing some more consistency to his game.

The Warriors could use the point guard depth, and trading deep into the lottery to secure another first-round pick certainly wouldn’t be their worst idea. Picking up a high-ceiling prospect like Hayes would be ideal for Golden State.
