The Golden State Warriors are keeping their options open for the 2020 NBA Draft and Onyeka Okongwu of USC is on their list of potential prospects.

All the time in the world won’t help the Golden State Warriors determine who the best prospect in the 2020 NBA Draft is. They are keeping their options open to anybody who could potentially help them compete for a title next season. Could Onyeka Okongwu be their guy?

Okongwu is more developed than most of his peers. He is a solid 6’9″ forward with phenomenal foot speed. He has flashed his talent as a scorer in the post and a creative finisher in transition.

At USC, Okongwu averaged 16.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, surprising many scouts and becoming a member of the 2019-20 All-PAC Team as a freshman. In the right scenario, Okongwu can excel at the NBA level.

The Warriors may be a perfect fit for him. Okongwu is at his best when he is rebounding the ball and converting shots around the rim. This is about all the Dubs would need from him as they have talent across the rest of their roster.

Okongwu does come with a few downsides. There is concern around his ability to pass and handle the ball. On top of this, he is a below-average shooter. These two factors combined would cause problems for the Warriors who rely heavily on versatile players in their lineups.

Lastly, Okongwu will be fighting for minutes behind players such as Draymond Green, Eric Paschall, Kevon Looney and Marquese Chriss. This means his opportunities will be limited thus capping his potential to be a productive player short.

It seems the Warriors’ best option will be to trade their 2020 first-round pick as no rookie will have an easy time earning big minutes on this roster. However, if they choose to keep the pick, Okongwu is surely still an option due to his athleticism and inside presence.
