5 implications the canceled season has on the Golden State Warriors
3. What about the Iguodala trade exception?
When the Warriors traded fan-favorite Andre Iguodala in the offseason, they took a big hit in the short term, but one of the longer-term benefits was that it created a $17.2 million trade exception.
What’s a trade exception? Good question.
Long story short, essentially the Warriors can acquire a player, or players, via trade that match the salary of the player (Iguodala) that was traded away, without having to send a matching salary back to the team involved in the trade.
$17.2 million could net the Warriors a quality veteran to contribute to a championship team.
However, it comes with a catch.
The Warriors must use this exception by July 6.
If the season is canceled, that could have an effect on this date, or it could not, but regardless, it’s a sneakily important timeline for Dubs fans to keep an eye on.
