Kyrie never made the shot
No, we aren’t talking about Christmas Day fade away from a swarming Klay Thompson. You know what we’re talking about. 2016 NBA Finals, in theory to ice the game, Kyrie Irving put it upon himself to hit the bottom of the net on a series-clinching three.
What if that shot had bricked?
This is quite the question because, in all reality, the domino effect that the Warriors winning this title would’ve had not only would’ve like kept Kevin Durant in OKC but it could’ve also kept both Kyrie Irving and LeBron James in Cleveland.
LeBron had two titles in Miami, and he went back to Cleveland to win one for his home city. After a seven-game series in which he could’ve won, the King would’ve likely remained in The Land to finished his mission. It’d be tough to envision Irving leaving his side with the Cavaliers so close.
But, to the Warriors’ distaste, the shot did go in, and the rest is history.
At the end of the day, the what-if scenarios provide a route to dream what could have been, but they’re sadly just that — dreams.
