Damian Lillard is one of the best point guards in the entire NBA, and he recently hyped up Golden State Warriors’ Ky Bowman’s defense on Twitter.

Ky Bowman had a tough time finding a spot in the NBA. At 26 years old, Bowman started the season on a two-way contract. Once he started shining with the Golden State Warriors, it was clear they were going to make a spot for him.

Bowman has since been given a spot on the 15-man roster, backing up Stephen Curry and, at times, being the team’s starting point guard. Having started 12 games and playing in 45, Bowman averaged 7.4 points per game and, per 36 minutes, notched 11.9.

On both ends of the court, Bowman has shown an ability to thrive. While he’s not going to be a superstar anytime soon, he can be one of the better backup two-way guards. The Golden State Warriors see that so has Damian Lillard.

It all started with this tweet to the Blazers verified account.

NBC Sports Bay Area snagged a screenshot of the tweet to follow. It was the verified Portland Trail Blazers account that said “Ky Bowman -dame.”

It’s an odd scenario, but Bowman’s all-around quality is the reason he has cracked a spot on the Warriors’ roster so seeing Lillard show some love isn’t exactly shocking. At the same time, the situation and the tweet having since been removed is a bit strange.

Lillard’s stint against the Warriors this season had been absolutely insane.

He was averaging nearly 45 points per game including a 61-point performance. However, it wasn’t Bowman who started for Golden State when Lillard popped off for 61. Lillard scored 39 when Bowman saw over 37 minutes, scoring 19 points himself.

A solid defender, the 6-foot-1, 181-pound rookie should be able to continue his role as the team’s backup point guard next season, a year the Warriors hope to return to being title favorites.
