The Golden State Warriors have built their dynasty through the draft, and it has been the top picks that’s taken to the top — it’s been those of best value.
Over the last five seasons, the Golden State Warriors have been to five NBA Finals. Having not had a top-five pick in almost 20 years, the Warriors have been forced to take their scouting to a new level.
The team drafted much of their high-level talent. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and even Harrison Barnes — all key pieces their 2014-2015 championship roster — were drafted by the team.
They’ll get a chance to continue that success in the 2020 NBA Draft, one in which they’re projected to have the No. 1 overall pick. While that pick isn’t a reflection of their talent level, moreso their injury luck, the Warriors will regardless get a top pick.
What will they do with that top pick? That we still don’t know, but owner Joe Lacob will be exploring all options to enhance this team, one primed to make another run at an NBA title in 2021.
The Warriors could trade back and find themselves in familiar territory. That said, let’s dive into three times that occurred in the last decade in which the Warriors found the “best value” in the draft.
