3 similarities the 90s Bulls and Golden State Warriors’ dynasties had
The issues
As “The Last Dance” detailed, the Chicago Bulls were built on a bad contract. Scottie Pippen’s bad contract helped allow the Bulls to spend elsewhere, and quite frankly, it seemed like it caused more issues than would’ve come with just paying the star.
But, at the end of the day, he did agree to the contract. While the Warriors were playing on Stephen Curry’s team-friendly contract, he was eventually awarded the supermax and is now the NBA’s highest-paid player.
They kept their superstars happy, and it goes further than just Curry though. Thompson and Green both got paid this past offseason like they were the star of the team as well. While both are instrumental to their success, the Warriors could’ve potentially given less than the max.
They knew their value, and it was a shame the Bulls, back in the day, did nothing to amend Pippen’s contract.
But, the NBA is a business, and the Bulls made a business decision, eventually leading to a distaste in Pippen’s mouth. Thankfully, the Warriors learned and didn’t let their stars leave but instead paid them.
