Stephen Curry and LeBron James will renew their long-time rivalry after two straight down seasons, one by LeBron’s Lakers and one by Curry’s Warriors.

The Stephen Curry-LeBron James rivalry will be back in action next season as both the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers should be among the Western Conference’s top contenders.

This season, it’s been the Warriors that dropped the ball.

Curry and Klay Thompson combined to play just five games through the team’s first 65. Out with a broken left arm, Curry just hasn’t been able to get back to the court until a few games prior to the league being suspended. The Warriors are 15-50, the only team already out of playoff contention.

Last season, it was the Lakers.

LeBron James helped keep them from being an embarrassment, but he didn’t have a second superstar presence, and you know how that goes. LeBron without another superstar and consistently missing games due to injury does not bode well for a team’s success.

That season before that, 2017-2018, was the last time we truly saw these two competitors go at each other.

It was a rivalry that spanned from 2014 to the current day, and the only difference that next season will have is that both their respective teams may not be head and shoulders above the rest of the league.

Back in the day, the Warriors and Cavaliers were clearly better than the rest of their conference, hurting the competitive nature but enhance the two superstar’s rivalry. However, now the Clippers, Bucks, and Rockets will all be in the conference to reign supreme.

That said, since the rivalry kicked off, Warriors came away with titles in 2015, 2017, and 2018. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving single-handedly came back from a 3-1 Finals deficit in 2016, the season prior to Kevin Durant joining the 73-win Warriors.
