The New York Knicks have been embarrassing their diehard fanbase for years.

The Knicks averaged the tenth-most fans in the NBA this season, and while that’s still impressive, the mecca for basketball needs to put a product on the court that will finally be capable of contending.

With D’Angelo Russell, the Knicks may not be great, but they, at the very least, would’ve contended. The Knicks haven’t won over 40 games since the 2012-2013 season. Russell’s Nets won 42 just last season.

After signing three power forwards with the bulk of their cap this past free agency and leaving fans scratching their heads, the Knicks need to make a move that would shock the NBA world, and they certainly had the assets to.

The East is far weaker depth-wise than the West. A team with R.J. Barrett and D’Angelo Russell could contend, and as the Nets showed, that’s all a team really needs to start attracting those big-name stars.

The Knicks haven’t shown life since the prime days of Carmelo Anthony. Russell would give them the swagger back, and he’d be able to at least put them above the currently-eight place Orlando Magic.
