Potentially set up the future

If you look at what the Brooklyn Nets did to build their superstar team, you get a glimpse of what could’ve taken the New York Knicks back to relevance.

The Nets built through the draft, but they largely did it with D’Angelo Russell, Caris LeVert, and Jarrett Allen. They weren’t the stars that will take them to the promisee land, but they are the ones that helped build a roster that made true superstars want to join their roster.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving probably didn’t want to join a team that had a track record for losing. On top of that, all the drama that’s filled the Knicks sphere over the last few years has really hurt their chances with stars.

That could’ve been reversed that stigma with the addition of Russell, but the Knicks weren’t looking to put too many assets on the line. Without the right deal, the Warriors were never going to deal Russell.

All that to say, the New York Knicks really should’ve and could’ve made a move to acquire D’Angelo Russell before he was dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
