The Golden State Warriors have a 14% chance of securing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and if they do, they should trade it.

After a discouraging season, the  Golden State Warriors should be able to see through their 15-50 record and at a few silver linings.

The most glaring of those is the fact that they’ll retain their 2020 first-round pick, one is that is projected to be one of the draft’s best. The pick was initially traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a deal that brought in D’Angelo Russell.

However, as the lottery has it, the Knicks and Cavaliers will, as is stands, also have a high chance of securing the top pick.

Last year, the teams with the top percentages were not in the favor of the ping pong balls. While that is the purpose of the lottery, it doesn’t bode well for the Warriors’ chances of actually securing the top pick.

That said, the Warriors are currently the only team not in playoff contention.

Their lack of success can be mainly traced back to injuries to five-time All-Star Klay Thompson and two-time MVP Stephen Curry. They should return to some kind of dominance next season with their roster finally healthy.

Before then, they’ll get the privilege of a lottery pick.

Who will they take? It shouldn’t even be too much of a concern because at the end of the day the Warriors should trade the pick.

Here’s why.
