If the Golden State Warriors want to draft for fit, then former Memphis center James Wiseman could and should be atop their big board.

The Golden State Warriors will look to bring back their Finals pedigree in 2021 after an embarrassing 2019-2020 season, but they’ll need a solid offseason filled with at least a few additions to enhance their razor-thin roster.

This roster, especially its frontcourt, is not ready to be in the Finals. They need more length and more rim protection badly as Dragan Bender is the team’s only 7-footer and who knows if he’ll even be on the roster next season.

With a top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft after their 15-50 season (one that’s not officially over), the Warriors, even if they’re within the top three, should be able to snag James Wiseman, a 7-foot-1 center from Memphis.

Due to some complications with the NCAA, Wiseman played a mere three games at the collegiate level. However, in those three games, he clearly proved that he was the most dynamic big man in college basketball, one with sky-high potential as well.

Wiseman averaged almost 20 points while snagging over 10 boards per game. What’s even more impressive is that he was doing those numbers on over 75% shooting. Even better is that, on the defensive end, he was averaging three blocks per game as well.

It’s tough to take Wiseman with a high lottery pick given the tape that scouts have and the lack of exposure to high-level competition. That said, Wiseman has shown elite athleticism and is a projected top-five pick.

If the Warriors don’t trade the pick, they can’t find a much more perfect fit than Wiseman. Players like Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, and Obi Toppin would all rival Andrew Wiggins, Stephen Curry, and Eric Paschall/Draymond Green for minutes.

While obviously they’d have a much longer career than the obvious listed, the Warriors would be looking to play the best available.

For the team, Wiseman would be the best available center for the team and is the best prospect at the five in the upcoming draft, one that will inevitably be pushed back from its late-June date.

If it’s fit the Warriors are concerned about and not the player with the highest ceiling, James Wiseman, who may currently sit atop their big board, will be their choice.
