When approached with an opportunity for their own ‘The Last Dance’ type of documentary in 2018, the Golden State Warriors rejected the proposal.

A 10-part documentary titled ‘The Last Dance’ that follows the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls has been keeping sports fans occupied during the NBA’s hiatus. When offered a similar type of documentary in 2018, the Golden State Warriors chose not to allow cameras into their locker room.

Peter Guber, a producer of ‘The Last Dance’, had the idea to follow the Warriors through the 2018-19 NBA season as there was a real possibility that it could be their last run as a dynasty. As Steve Kerr recently explained, the Dubs weren’t ready to accept their dynasty was over.

"You think about our situation with the Warriors, and we didn’t have a final season,” Kerr said. “We’re trying to keep this thing going. A lot of our players are still here, and we’re trying to rev it back up, so there was no sense of finality. If anything, we’re trying to avoid that.”"

Kerr has a point. Though many assumed Kevin Durant would be leaving the franchise there was no reason to think the Dubs would fall off as drastically as they did this season. Injuries to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were unpredictable.

Even though the team sits with a league-worst record there is still reason to believe they will be back in title contention next season. Therefore, it would not have made much sense to have a camera crew follow them around for their ‘last dance’ if it wasn’t truly their last run at a championship.

Still, it would have been incredible to see behind the scenes of a few moments from that season. Could you imagine an inside look at Durant and Draymond Green‘s feud that occurred midway through the season? Or maybe a look at the locker room throughout their injury-plagued playoff run?

A documentary about the Warriors would have been wildly interesting but it makes all the sense in the world that the franchise rejected the offer.
