As the league gears for a return to play, Steve Kerr expects the 2019-20 NBA season is already over for the Golden State Warriors.

As many already assumed, the NBA is beginning to seriously consider resuming the 2019-20 NBA season. Most players agree that a champion needs to be crowned one way or another. Meanwhile, Steve Kerr is content with the Golden State Warriors heading into the offseason early.

In an interview on 95.7 The Game, Kerr told Damon Bruce, Ray Ratto and Matt Kolsky that he doesn’t expect the league to ask the Warriors to finish the season.

"“…if the league asks us to play more games. We’ll play. I don’t anticipate that happening. But we’ll be ready if it does.”"

Kerr has coached the Warriors through some magnificent seasons. In his five years as head coach, he has reached five NBA Finals and won three championships. This season, Kerr has finally had a chance to feel what it’s like to lead a lottery-bound team.

The Warriors don’t have much to gain from finishing the remaining 17 games on their schedule. They have already been eliminated from playoff contention and currently hold the best odds for winning the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery. Playing the rest of their season only puts them at risk of winning more games or potentially injuring a player.

While teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks are eagerly awaiting the season to return so they can get back to their championship aspirations, the Warriors are simply looking forward to next season.

The upcoming NBA Draft and free agency period are where most of the Dubs’ attention is focused. The front office is going to be relentlessly pursuing more talent to build a proper supporting cast for Stephen Curry.

It is doubtful the NBA will ask the Warriors or any other lottery-bound team to complete their season.
