Trading down in the 2020 NBA Draft and taking a prospect such as Tyrese Haliburton is the Golden State Warriors’ best option.

The Golden State Warriors have a plethora of options for the 2020 NBA Draft. They hold the top odds to win the lottery and are poised for a season of success as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson return to the floor. Their best option to complement this star backcourt would be Tyrese Haliburton.

Haliburton wouldn’t start alongside the Splash Brothers but he could act as a floor general for the second unit. He displayed strong court vision at Iowa State and showed he can control the tempo of a game. The Warriors don’t have a reliable guard they can trust to lead the bench. Haliburton could provide playmaking and scoring as he averaged 15.2 points and 6.5 assists last season.

Right now, the Warriors’ best option as a backup point guard is Ky Bowman. Although Bowman has had brief moments in which he was producing at a decent rate this season, the Warriors will need someone with more talent in order to really make their bench reliable.

Other guards such as LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards are more talented but will likely seek a larger role with whatever team they are drafted by. This makes them a bad fit for the Dubs who need players that are comfortable playing limited minutes.

The Warriors also don’t need to focus their attention on a big man like Onyeka Okongwu or James Wiseman. This is because the franchise is reportedly already comfortable with their frontcourt rotation of Marquese Chriss and Kevon Looney.

While many teams have their eyes on Haliburton, it’s likely he won’t be selected until later in the draft order. This opens up an opportunity for the Warriors to potentially trade down in the draft and still acquire Haliburton.

This would be the best possible scenario for the Dubs. Not only will they be able to draft their ideal prospect but they can also trade for a player that is more capable of helping them compete in a deep playoff run next season.
