Secure a top prospect

If the Warriors trade back, they’ll still be able to secure a top prospect. With players like Tyrese Maxey, a high-ceiling guard that has two-way potential, the Warriors should look into trading back if they are enamored with a prospect that’s not necessarily among the projected top three.

Being able to deal that asset and still manage a top prospect like Maxey or Killian Hayes is a huge reason why it should be what Golden State does. Obviously, if the Warriors trade back, the late-lottery pick won’t be the only thing they return.

This draft is set up for one in which top prospects fall. While there are a few prospects that have a much higher ceiling than others, there is no guaranteed star. Zion Williamson or Ja Morant aren’t at the top of the 2020 NBA Draft.

Maxey, Hayes, or Obi Toppin have almost just as good of a chance at being great in the league as the highly-coveted prospects like LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards. While their skill sets may not seem as transferrable, the way players develop in the league is always somewhat unpredictable.

If the Warriors trade back, they’ll still get a sought after prospect, one reason they must consider it when looking into potential trades.
