Golden State Warriors believe Tyrese Haliburton is best guard in NBA Draft

The Golden State Warriors have high hopes for Tyrese Haliburton who they believe is the best guard available in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Every day we learn more about the Golden State Warriors‘ goals for the 2020 NBA Draft. After much consideration, Tyrese Haliburton is emerging as the best point guard available to the team.

Haliburton had a magnificent sophomore season for Iowa State. Averaging 15.2 points and 5.9 assists on a clean 50/40/80 shooting clip, Haliburton showed that he is capable of operating at a high level.

Most analysts seem to be placing other point guards such as LaMelo Ball and Killian Hayes higher on their draft boards. But, Connor Letourneau says that the Dubs would prefer to take Haliburton over any of his peers.

What this means for the Warriors

This small bit of news has massive implications for the Dubs.

Firstly, this points directly to the Warriors trading down in the draft. Haliburton is certainly a lottery pick but he won’t be taken until later in the order. If he is the Warriors top prospect then this opens a path for them to trade further down. This coaligns with rumors that the Warriors are planning on trading their pick.

But, why would the Warriors want Haliburton over Ball or Hayes? It seems obvious that his ceiling is lower than other guards in his draft.

The reason is simple. Haliburton is older and more developed than the other two guards. Plus, he won’t be asking to be in the spotlight. Haliburton is not a highly coveted prospect and therefore should be more willing to accept his role-playing behind Stephen Curry.

Haliburton can lead the second unit with ease. He is a high IQ player and an efficient decision-maker. He is exactly the type of force the Warriors need on their bench.

Winning the draft lottery and swapping picks would be fantastic for the franchise. With a bit of luck, they can select their ideal prospect and acquire some other asset in the process.
