The Golden State Warriors will be tied for the best odds (14%) at taking home the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

For having been to five straight NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors find themselves in an interesting position. With the top odds at the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Warriors may find their next superstar if they are able to win the draft lottery.

They were only granted the odds to that pick because A) the team struggled due to injury and B) the team put the top-20 protection on their pick before dealing it to Brooklyn in a trade that landed them D’Angelo Russell.

That said, what they’re going to do with that pick remains to be seen. While most are calling for them to deal it and bring in future assets that help return the roster to Finals contention, there’s certainly a case to be made for them to find the future of the franchise.

Apparently, they view the future of their franchise as freshman phenom Anthony Edwards from the University of Georgia. Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that they would “likely take Georgia guard Anthony Edwards.”

That is, if they don’t opt to trade down, something the team is considering.

Guaranteed a top-five pick, the Warriors have the talent on their roster right now to make the 2021 NBA Finals. The injuries to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson derailed their season. It gave them a gap year.

They went just 15-50 and will be back in the lottery. This should be seen as a positive thing, and potentially being able to snag a player of Edwards’ caliber is a huge plus. Edwards was extremely inconsistent during his time at Georgia though, hurting his draft stock.

However, some of those inconsistencies produced absolutely insane moments. He put up over 35 points against Michigan State, but it was his 30 second-half points that really awed scouts. As a whole, Edwards didn’t show enough to typically be the surefire No. 1 pick.

But, this draft is weak, and Edwards appears to be climbing the boards as the easy pick for the Golden State Warriors if they find themselves with teh top overall selection. With teams also loving LaMelo Ball, the Dubs missing on the top pick and still selecting Edwards is possible.
