It’s insane to think that the Golden State Warriors’ longest title drought since the hiring of Steve Kerr as head coach is just two years.

The Golden State Warriors, sadly, won’t be making a sixth straight Finals appearance. Their reign will have to end at five, and to be fair to the league, we knew this before the NBA’s plan to resume was ever even approved.

The Warriors are 15-50. They were the only team not in playoff contention when the league’s suspension began in mid-March. Without Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry, this season has been tough for the bulk of the Warriors’ diehard fanbase.

They just weren’t used to their stars leading them on a gamely basis.

Steve Kerr was likely a bit shook to as he didn’t have that safety net of a perfectly sank Curry three to save him from a near loss. That said, after his sixth season with the team, having made the Finals for the first five, this will be Kerr’s longest streak without a ring.

Think about it — he came in for the 2014-2015 season. Ring.

2016 Finals. Well, sadly we know what happened there. The Cavaliers with their 3-1 comeback made both history and a great meme for the next several months.

Thankfully came the 2017 and 2018 Finals. Two more rings after the addition of Kevin Durant were what propelled the Warriors dynasty to the highest tier.

Then, much like it did a few times to the LeBron James-led Cavaliers, the injury bug hit.

Thompson went down in Game 6 after Durant had already been ruled out for the series after Game 5. It was just one on top of another which led to the Raptors finally winning a championship after six games.

Before this season, Kerr hadn’t gone back-to-back seasons without a championship. Given the situation he walked into, it shouldn’t be too hard to believe, but at the end of the day, it’s still incredibly impressive.
