Golden State Warriors: A 5-step plan to success in 2020 offseason
Find quality low-cost veteran free agents
The Golden State Warriors did an excellent job of bringing in low-cost veterans in 2019. They signed Alec Burks, Glenn Robinson III, and Willie Cauley-Stein, three players meant to come in and fill a specific role for the franchise.
While Cauley-Stein had an option for the second year, Burks and Robinson took a lesser role for a spot on a Finals-contending team. Well, what they got was so much better.
They were able to shine, were both eventually traded, and should find a new home this offseason that’ll land them on a true contender.
For Robinson III, that could be back in the Bay. However, those three aren’t their only options. Players like Aron Baynes and Wilson Chandler could also provide that much-needed depth for Golden State.
The Warriors will likely waive some of their non-guaranteed contracts to make room for reliable veterans. That said, finding some players towards the end of their careers that could sign for cheap would help the team’s short-term future immensely.
The Warriors are in a good place, and with these five steps, they’ll be primed for success both in the short-term and long-term future.
