With the NBA Draft still months away, the Golden State Warriors have another prospect on their radar. This time it’s guard Tyrese Haliburton from Iowa State.

The Golden State Warriors have thrown some smokescreens out this offseason. Is this most recent report about them being on high on Tyrese Haliburton just another one? After all, they’ve been high and low on James Wiseman in the last few months.

The former three-star recruit took his game to the next level at Iowa State. Leaving after his second season that abruptly ended after 22 games, Haliburton elevated his game and is likely going to be a top-ten pick.

From 6.8 to 15.2 points per game, Haliburton shot 50.4% from the field and over 40% from downtown, nearing 42% while making 2.4 threes per game. His type of efficiency is what Golden State’s craves. He also improved as a playmaker, more than doubling his assists as a sophomore.

However, many question his form and if he’ll continue that efficiency at the sport’s highest level. As for the Warriors, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony (subscription required), they’re hoping to get Shaun Livington-like production from the lengthy prospect.

Livington wasn’t necessarily an elite three-point shooter, but I assume the team hopes Haliburton can add that strength to his repertoire. The team could be intrigued by Haliburton for several reasons.

The lengthy 6-foot-5 point guard would fill several holes for this team, primarily as a backup point guard. Haliburton has potential, but he’s not worthy of being the No. 1 overall pick. That said, the Warriors have a 14% shot at that pick and are guaranteed a top-five pick.

With the 2020 NBA draft still months away, there are certainly other rumors that will come out. As of now, the team apparently has an interest in Wiseman and Haliburton, players they’d likely take depending on their position in the draft.
