The New York Knicks, in a very New York Knick move, waived Allonzo Trier. The Golden State Warriors should snatch him up immediately.

The 24-year-old Allonzo Trier had a terrific rookie season yet cooled off in his second year in the league. Still young and full of potential, the Warriors could use his help, potentially providing excellent scoring for their second unit.

Trier went undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft after a spectacular career at Arizona.

Scoring 18.1 points per game his junior season, Trier wasn’t regarded as a top-tier prospect in the draft. However, he did find his way into the league on a two-way contract and that was eventually transitioned into a two-year contract.

Now a free agent, Trier will have his options for his next NBA home.

As aforementioned, his first season in the league was far better than his second.

During that 2018-2019 season, Trier averaged 10.9 points in 22.8 minutes per game. He shot 45% from the field and over 80% from the line. Trier’s numbers across the board took a hit this season. However, he did shoot over 48% from the field, one improvement that should be noted.

Trier is a scorer, and at 6-foot-4, he could help be the answer for Golden State. He plays a similar style to Damion Lee, so the team doesn’t absolutely need a scoring backup shooting guard. Trier has the potential to be so much more and has proven it.

While it’s doubtful he’ll be picked up by Golden State, there’s no denying he’ll have a solid future in the association. Trier may get scooped up just in time to play in the NBA’s restarted which is scheduled for July 30.

The Warriors have the talent in their organization to continue well into the future without Trier, but he would help add to the backcourt depth. He’ll end as a great addition for any team.
