3. D.J. Augustin
Role: Backup point guard
The Golden State Warriors trust that Stephen Curry is going to carry them out of the mud to bring them back into title contention. But, what happens when Curry needs to rest?
Steve Kerr has already mentioned that the team will be looking to manage Curry’s minutes now more than ever. As the two-time MVP approaches his mid-30s, extending his career will be a focal point.
Right now, the Dubs best option off the bench is Ky Bowman. The undrafted rookie turned heads with his surprisingly decent performances down the stretch of the season but it’s tough to imagine the franchise feeling comfortable with Bowman as their backup for Curry.
This is where D.J. Augustin comes into play. He has been an underrated producer in the last few seasons, consistently posting positive numbers with each team he joins. Augustin averaged 10.4 points and 4.6 assists off the bench for the Magic this year.
Augustin is a natural fit for this team. He is a quality, veteran leader that can be trusted to create plays with the second unit.
