Adding a backup point guard

This isn’t as high profile of a potential trade as the first one, but it is one that looks well into the future as the Knicks 2021 first-round pick coupled with the pick the Warriors will already be getting from Minnesota could produce the next great wave of Warriors.

With the Warriors looking to prioritize adding a backup point guard, they could also bring in Dennis Smith Jr. Smith Jr. was a highly touted prospect that never truly used his athleticism and shooting to reach his potential.

The 22-year-old former top-ten pick averaged 5.5 points per game on under 35% from the field and under 30% from deep. He’s young, and he’s spent the last year and a half in New York. The Warriors could mold him into a player capable of thriving in the Bay Area.

As a rookie, Smith Jr. averaged 15.2 points per game. He can score, and he could certainly captain the second unit. With the main asset in return the Knicks 2021 first-round pick, this would be a no-brainer for Golden State.

If the Knicks lose the draft lottery and want LaMelo Ball, it could be a win for them as well.
