A little rest can go a long way for Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors – who will need to be at full strength for another title run next season.

Journeying to five straight NBA Finals has to be a physically and mentally tasking experience. As Steve Kerr recently said on the Bill Simmons Podcast, the Golden State Warriors are secretly thankful for not being invited to the NBA’s Orlando Bubble.

Don’t get him wrong, the Warriors certainly wish they could be competing alongside the other elite teams. Kerr made sure to mention that he and Draymond Green are especially frustrated watching the show from the sidelines. However, Kerr acknowledges that the Dubs needed this time off to recover.

"“When the Orlando thing happened, I don’t think a lot of us were that disappointed to not be invited — especially Steph (Curry), Draymond (Green), Klay (Thompson). The guys needed a rest. They just needed to get away.”"

Kerr definitely has a point. Before the 2019-20 NBA season was suspended – we were seeing just how much of physical toll their previous playoff runs were taking on the team. Each member of the big three suffered injury – with both Curry and Thompson missing a majority of the season.

The Warriors simply needed a chance to rest their bodies. Even if they had been invited to the Orlando Bubble – it was unlikely they would be able to piece everything together and compete for a title at such short notice.

Though it hurts their competitive spirit to be inactive – it’s surely for the best. Curry, Thompson and Green have a large mountain to climb next season. It’s rare for a team to jump from the lottery to a championship in one year. The Dubs have all of the correct personnel to get it done – now they just need to be at full strength to make it happen.
