20. Purvis Short

There’s an argument to be made for Purvis Short to be far higher on this list.

He averaged 28 points per game one season for the Golden State Warriors. He was an absolutely dominant small forward who played in the Bay Area from 1978-87.

Short made the playoffs once with the Warriors, and on that team, he wasn’t even the leading scorer. While he was just 106 points shy of 12,000 career points in a Warriors jersey, Short’s lack of success hindered his ranking, but he was a terrific player.

Much like Monta Ellis, Short was never able to get his team to the promised land. A top-five pick, Short was everything fans hoped he would be. Short was truly a legend in the early 80s and helped elevate basketball’s popularity.
