Deandre Ayton appears on The Woj Pod, doesn’t clap back at Warriors’ Draymond Green
Deandre Ayton made a guest appearance on an ESPN-ran podcast and opted to not clap back at the comments made by Warriors’ Draymond Green.
Draymond Green went on set with Charles Barkley and the TNT staff. The Warriors forward made comments to which he was fined $50,000. Those comments were, in summation, that All-Star shooting guard Devin Booker needs to get out of Phoenix and into a winning culture.
Green was fined for tampering. The main reason Booker was even being talked about with his Suns still a few games out of the 8th seed in the West is that he’s taken his game to a new level in the Orlando bubble.
He’s averaging over 30 points and 6 assists per game while leading the Suns being the only team undefeated in the bubble, having taken down both the Mavericks and Clippers behind terrific performances from the 23-year-old guard.
Booker has been a top-five player in Orlando and is cementing himself as one of the league’s best, young shooting guards.
Booker clearly has no intentions of leaving after signing a massive contract that’ll keep him in Phoenix till after the 2023-20234 season. Knowing that, fellow Sun and former No. 1 overall pick, Deandre Ayton spoke on the situation, just calling it “outside noise.”
“We definitely heard that noise. It was promoted everywhere. It’s just outside noise. Book is a dude who really maintains focus, and he just wants to win. He’s a competitor at the highest peak there is in this league,” Ayton said on “The Woj Pod” with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Ayton could’ve said anything he wanted. He could’ve sounded off on Green. It was a good move from the young center to move past the situation and not create another headline. Fighting for the 8th seed, his Suns don’t need the distractions.
It hasn’t just been Booker playing well either. While he’s the star, Ayton has seen some solid performances in Orlando as well. He’s slowly making a name for himself in the league as well which is why his opinion should matter.
Green does have a point, but the Suns have nothing to lose and are playing solid basketball behind Booker. Let’s hope their success continues as Golden State really doesn’t make sense for Booker if he’s dealt before his contract is up.
