The Golden State Warriors will have to make several moves this offseason to get back to Finals contention. Is dealing Andrew Wiggins one of them?

This season was a colossal disappointment for the Golden State Warriors. While it was understandable given the combined five games played by Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry, being excluded from the bubble was nonetheless embarrassing.

Expecting to bounce back next season with a re-energized roster, the Warriors will have ways to further improve their roster this offseason. One such way that should be noted is by trading their 2020 first-round pick.

Coupling that pick and the team’s trade exception, they could bring in a star.

However, there’s more than one possibility that the team must look into. Another would be dealing Andrew Wiggins, a former first-round pick that was brought to the Bay Area in a deal that landed D’Angelo Russell in Minnesota.

“I suspect that they will get on the phone with just about every team in the league just to survey the landscape and see what kind of value they can get, and also pair potentially Andrew Wiggins’ big contract to make the salaries work for a star,” Haberstroh told NBC Sports’ Bay Area.

Wiggins, 25, played 12 games in Golden State before the league’s suspension in the middle of March. In those performances, he averaged 19.4 points on 46% shooting. Also notching 3.6 assists per game, Wiggins is expected to be the starting small forward option as of now.

That said, as we saw with D’Angelo Russell and the team’s resilience to announce that he was available in trade talks, Wiggins’ name may be tossed out there even if the team has given reasonable assurance that wouldn’t be the case.

Without Kevin Durant, many believe the Warriors need another star to make the Finals. Wiggins has the potential to be that star, but if he’s only a Harrison Barnes replica, do the Warriors have enough to get back to the Finals?

That’ll be a question management must ask and resolve this offseason because the clock on their two superstars is ticking.
