The lottery is finally here. On Thursday, August 20, the Golden State Warriors will learn where they will be choosing in the 2020 NBA Draft.

After much anticipation, the day has almost come for the Golden State Warriors to discover their fate in the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery. The event will take place on August 20 – where the lottery teams will appear virtually to find out where they will fall in the order.

The results will surely have a longterm effect on the franchise that is potentially entering the second half of a dynasty. A string of injuries caused the Dubs’ to collapse last season – but with a healthy core back in action, we can expect the Warriors to be a title-contending team once again.

One factor that could help them next year is winning the No. 1 overall pick. This not only gives them the chance to draft a potentially game-changing prospect – but also maximizes their ability to trade with other teams. If they do land the top pick, it’s rumored that Anthony Edwards is their top priority. Of course, rumors of swapping the pick for a more experienced veteran have been on the table as well.

Finishing dead-last in the NBA earned the Warriors the highest chance of winning the lottery. However, recent changes to the format have flattened the odds and reduced the reward for being a poor team. Here are the odds for all 14 teams:

  • Warriors – 14%
  • Cavaliers – 14%
  • Timberwolves – 14%
  • Hawks – 12.5%
  • Pistons – 10.5%
  • Knicks – 9%
  • Bulls – 7.5%
  • Hornets – 6%
  • Wizards – 4.5%
  • Suns – 3%
  • Spurs – 2%
  • Pelicans – 1.3%
  • Kings – 1.2%
  • Grizzlies (Celtics) – 0.5%

The Warriors have a lot riding on this upcoming lottery. While they don’t need a rising star to lead their future just yet – it would certainly make them more comfortable heading into the decade if they had a promising young prospect learning under Stephen Curry’s wing.

Regardless, the Dubs are in a great position to compete for a title. The results of the lottery will obviously dictate how they move forward but the franchise will be in good shape no matter what happens on Thursday night.
