Rudy Gay

Rudy Gay may not be the player that makes the Warriors instant Finals favorites, but he would be an ideal addition. At 6-foot-8, Gay’s length would make him a great candidate to fill out a potential small-ball lineup with Wiggins, Green, Thompson, and Curry.

Gay has played the last few seasons with the Spurs. He’d be just about the entire trade exception, but given his cost, it may be worthwhile for both teams as San Antonio could easily shed some cap by dealing the veteran.

The one thing that should stand out about Gay over the course of his 14-year career is his consistency. Gay has averaged double figures in every one of those seasons, eclipsing 20 points per game three times.

Having averaging over a three per game in nine of those 14, Gay would also be able to help keep the floor spaced. He’s not an elite defender, but he could give the Warriors that veteran wing that they lost when they dealt Iguodala to Memphis, the transaction that freed up the exception.

Gay, 34, is a free agent after next season, making him a perfect candidate for this exception.
