The Golden State Warriors have a 14% chance of landing the No. 1 pick, and if they do so, they should they look to trade it for Devin Booker?

Devin Booker, regardless of if he won it or not, was the MVP of the bubble. He made timely shot after timely shot for a Phoenix Suns team was a perfect 8-0. However, his fit with the Finals-contending Golden State Warriors is a questionable one at best.

Having technically still been to the last five straight NBA Finals, it’s fun to look at how certain superstars fit with Golden State. For Bleacher Report, they took it a bit further and looked at a potential way the Warriors could bring in the superstar guard.

Bleacher Report proposed a trade with an important disclaimer that this, like any trade with reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo as well, would only happen if Booker demanded to be traded from Phoenix. Booker has shown no desire to force his way out Phoenix.

That said, here’s the deal they looked into.

“The Trade: 2020 No. 1 overall pick, 2020 second-round pick (via Dallas Mavericks), 2021 first-round pick (top-three protected, via Minnesota Timberwolves), 2021 second-round pick (via Minnesota Timberwolves), SF Andrew Wiggins to Phoenix Suns for SG Devin Booker”

It’s quite an interesting transaction.

While the Warriors deal Wiggins, the bulk of the action comes in the two first-round picks that the team would trade away. The Warriors purposefully brought in that 2021 first-round pick, wanting a top pick in a loaded draft class.

Even if Phoenix wouldn’t take the deal, the Warriors may not propose it due to Booker’s potential fit with Golden State.

Booker, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, has played over 75% of his minutes in the league at the two. The Warriors seemingly didn’t want to keep D’Angelo Russell on the roster because of the clash that he may have with Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry in the backcourt.

While Booker may be a slightly better fit due to his size, the fact still remains that Thompson would be forced to play the three.

A Booker-Curry-Thompson-Paschall-Green small-ball lineup does sound intriguing and would present all types of problems for defenses. Seeing Kevin Durant thrive in the Bay should give hope that a high-scoring, ball-dominant player could be engaged in the offense.

Under contract until after the 2023-2024 season, Booker doesn’t have any intention of leaving Phoenix, and I doubt they’d even want to trade him if they did. This is a dream, one that Warriors fans may hope would one day come true.
