3 options the Golden State Warriors will have with the No. 2 overall pick
Combine the pick and the trade exception for a star
Ricky Rubio, Marcus Smart, Kelly Oubre Jr. — name a high-upside, non-superstar that is set to make under $18 million per year and the Warriors could likely combine the pick and their trade exception to bring them.
But, is that the right move? For starters, the Warriors would have to feel that with that player they’re instant title contenders.
With Curry and Thompson on the roster, the Warriors already have a good start. They may not need more pieces as they added Andrew Wiggins this past season and also still have Draymond Green as well.
One Aaron Gordon-like player to solidify their small-ball lineup may do it, but on top of giving away their pick, the Warriors management would have to go above-and-beyond, paying yet another high-value salary.
This would show that the Warriors mean business on building another team ready to compete with their superstar backcourt still in their prime. But, do they need to trust that they can get the job done and go ahead and plan for the future?
That’s yet another option.
