Golden State Warriors: 8 trades for No. 2 overall NBA Draft pick

8. San Antonio Spurs

We never said each deal on this slider would be a home run. However, a lot can be gained from picking up a quality veteran player such as Rudy Gay.

Gay has played over 10 seasons in the NBA and aside from a brief stint in Toronto where he was labeled a ball hog – has been a fairly reliable scorer for each team he has been on. Gay averaged 10.8 points this season with the Spurs and can offer veteran experience off the bench for Golden State.

After missing the postseason for the first time since 1997, the Spurs will almost certainly be entering a full rebuild. This means aging players like Gay and Patty Mills will be available in trades – the latter of which could potentially be acquired for the same price.

Swapping picks with the Spurs finishes this deal off for the Warriors who should feel satisfied with the transaction. Again, this isn’t the best package they can receive, but it’s one they will consider if all else fails.
