The No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft will prove to hold some great value for the Golden State Warriors if they choose to pursue a trade.

There has been some debate regarding the value of the Golden State Warriors‘ No. 2 overall NBA Draft pick in what appears to be a weak draft class. However, make no mistake, this pick still has great value.

The biggest concern of this upcoming draft is that it isn’t loaded with superstar talent. There is no Zion Williamson or Ja Morant type name slotted to go in the top three. Instead, the best prospects all have major question marks next to their names. Will Anthony Edwards blossom into a good defender? Can LaMelo Ball improve as a shooter? Is there any fire to the smoke behind the hype for James Wiseman?

These are questions we won’t know the answer to for quite some time. With the next NBA season expected to start in December but with the potential to be delayed all the way until March – we simply don’t know when we will get to watch these rookies compete at the professional level.

Nonetheless, it should be noted that in a draft that is so starved for elite talent, the value of having a top-three pick and earning the chance to even select one of the few players with star potential is vital. While it’s possible that a sleeper prospect turns into an elite player one day – the importance of being able to take Wiseman, Edwards or Ball is heightened considering the fact that the talent level drops significantly after them.

For teams like the Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Washington Wizards, there is great value in jumping up the draft order to secure the No. 2 overall pick. Not to mention, teams threatening to blow it up and retool their rosters like the Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz.

A good deal is out there for the Warriors. They just have to monitor each team and find a package they are interested in. If some other franchise falls in love with one of the top three prospects, the Dubs will have a ton of leverage in negotiations.
