Tyrese Haliburton

The Golden State Warriors will reportedly target a backup point guard. Making that a priority this offseason is step one to ensuring that if they keep the pick it is a guard. Step two would be bringing in a player the team feels could contribute immediately.

The only guard in the draft that the Warriors seem to be “high” on is Tyrese Haliburton.

“If they believe Ball is likely to develop into an All-Star, they will be prepared to draft him. However, they are also high on another point guard: Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton,” Mercury News’ Goldberg.

“While Ball is indeed flashy and No. 1 on many draft analysts’ boards, Haliburton may have an easier time getting on the floor for Golden State,” he continued. This isn’t the first time the team has reportedly flashed praise at the lengthy guard.

Haliburton averaged 15.2 points and 5.9 assists on a solid 50/40/80 this past season, showing just how efficient and effective he can be. That’s the type of numbers Golden State would love to bring in, and they are much more visually appealing than LaMelo Ball’s numbers in the NBL.

Haliburton to Golden State makes sense, but not projected as a top-three pick, they could flip picks with Cleveland and potentially still get their guy, making a trade down seem even more likely.
