Despite all of the trade rumors, reports still suggest the Golden State Warriors will use the No. 2 overall NBA Draft pick for themselves.

The 2020 NBA Draft is likely going to be pushed back from it’s original October 18 target date. This leaves more room for the Golden State Warriors to buckle down on a prospect – where they currently have multiple options for the No. 2 overall pick.

Anthony Edwards has been the one name thrown around the most by sources close to the team. All indications point to the Warriors loving Edwards‘ upside as a scorer and defender. His fit in the backcourt alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson would be crowded but he could thrive in a bench role before eventually becoming the face of the franchise.

The only problem here is that the Minnesota Timberwolves hold the top pick and they have every reason to take Edwards as he appears to be a perfect fit alongside D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns. This has caused many to think the Dubs will trade their pick but Wes Goldberg of The Mercury News suggests they will go in a different direction.

"“Of course. The Warriors will listen to pitches for the No. 2 pick, but league sources indicate they are prepared to select a player no matter what the Timberwolves do at No. 1.”"

Goldberg went on to explain where the Dubs’ sights would be if Edwards is off the board at No. 2.

"“While the Warriors are high on both Deni Avdija and Isaac Okoro, Advija would be the likelier pick between them if Anthony Edwards is off the board at No. 2.”"

The Warriors could use an additional playmaker to run alongside Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green. This third ball-handler has been key to their previous title runs (Kevin Durant/Andre Iguodala). Avdija is an adequate playmaker and should learn quickly with the Warriors.

However, Avdija is a player who very well could be available later in the draft order. If the Dubs feel confident they can still select Avdija deeper into the draft – they could look to swap picks with teams like Cleveland, Detroit or New York.
