3 reasons Joel Embiid to the Golden State Warriors doesn’t make sense
Contract
While the Warriors may want to rid themselves of small forward Andrew Wiggins‘ contract, there aren’t many that would want to take it on.
In any deal, the Warriors would have to give enough to entice a team to take it off their hands. The Warriors would then need a capable starting small forward that they feel comfortable could guard other elite forward like LeBron James in Kawhi Leonard.
As for Embiid, he made $27.5 million this season.
That will climb to over $33 million before the end of his contract. His contract is set to expire after the 2022-2023 season. With Devin Booker also hitting the market, that could be a massive time for NBA free agents.
For now, Embiid’s contract would be a good bit for Golden State to bring in. He’d be their fourth max-value player, and the Warriors would be forced to include Wiggins, who has a similar deal in any trade.
If the Warriors can get the Sixers to take Wiggins’ contract, then great, but that could pose a big obstacle for Golden State.
