6. Rudy Gobert – Fact

The Utah Jazz were staring down the barrel back in March when Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell clashed. Things may get even worse now as the franchise has blown a 3-1 lead to the Denver Nuggets and will be heading home from the Orlando Bubble.

Mitchell is understandably frustrated. The young star averaged 36.3 points on above 50 percent shooting from the floor and 3-point line in a losing effort during this series. While Gobert delivered a solid performance as well, it’s possible the Jazz will have to split these two stars up sooner rather than later.

It seems Mitchell won’t be the one to go – as he is expected to sign a max contract extension with the Jazz when free agency begins. With Gobert set to hit free agency next season, the Jazz could look to trade him before they have to pay him in 2021.

If this is the case, the Warriors have a package capable of acquiring Gobert. A swap involving Andrew Wiggins and multiple first round picks should be enough to bring in the two-time Defensive Player of the Year.

However, the Dubs may choose to steer clear of Gobert as his limited offensive game is not an ideal match for the Warriors. Furthermore, he has never shown to be an elite perimeter defender – something that could hinder the team from competing for a championship. Nonetheless, Gobert is a realistic trade target.
