The second round

In addition, to the second overall pick Golden State also have the 48th and 51st pick in the draft. The Warriors have repeatedly struck gold in the past with late round picks, especially in Myers’ time in charge.

Myers has found second round gems in both Green and Eric Paschall, while the Warriors GM also found a late first-round steal in Kevon Looney in 2015. All stand to play major roles once again in 2020-21.

The draft could also be pivotal in terms of convincing Giannis Antetokounmpo further that his future lies in the Bay Area.

Kevin Durant was once convinced in the same way. The 2012 class helped the Warriors return to contention and proved to Durant that the Dubs were the best place for him to chase championship glory.

Should the Warriors experience similar success in the 2020 draft and improve their depth enough to win a championship once again, it may well convince Giannis that he can satisfy his championship ambition in the Bay like Durant did.

Although the core of Curry, Thompson and Green may well be convincing enough, putting a solid core behind the trio will do no harm.

The Warriors found success with the original draft model when they were picking in the lottery, they could once again go to that model as they look to extend their dynasty.
