Golden State Warriors: 3 Keys to Andrew Wiggins’ success
By Tony Pesta
2. Off-ball movement
Andrew Wiggins’ best asset is his athleticism. His combination of speed and length makes him a threat to score easy points by moving off-ball effectively.
Much like defense, a lot of this requires high-energy and motivation to be a good cutter. Wiggins will need to be actively engaged in the game to find correct times to slash to the rim for a potential lob or entry pass.
With Stephen Curry leading the show, Wiggins won’t be asked to handle the ball as much. This opens paths for him to operate off-ball and utilize his skill as a slasher to attack the rim. He shouldn’t struggle with this as finishing around the basket is something he has always been consistent at.
However, Wiggins will need to prove he can knock down 3-pointers in catch-and-shoot situations. He made 69-of-193 (35.3) attempts last season. This is just good enough to skate by but he will need to increase his efficiency if he wants to be a truly useful weapon on offense.
