Eric Paschall was a crucial piece of the Golden State Warriors offense last season, and he deserved to be better than sixth in ROY voting.

The Golden State Warriors were the NBA’s worst team this past season. Their lack of success allowed them to give minutes to players that typically wouldn’t have a huge impact on their typical championship-contending roster.

One of those players was a second-round draft pick, Eric Paschall.

Paschall came from Villanova.

A little old, Paschall, 23, didn’t show a huge upside at the NBA level, so his draft stock slipped. As we know with the Draymond Green selection and even the Jacob Evans III pick, the Warriors loved developed college stars.

Paschall was that, and he brought that in his rookie season.

He ended his rookie season averaging 14.0 points per game, the fifth-most among rookies. He was seventh in rebounds per game as well. The biggest part of Paschall’s game that should be noted is his efficiency.

Paschall had the best field goal percentage among rookies that shot the ball over 600 times. That’s what he brought to the table, and it’s what got him on the board in the Rookie of the Year voting as well.

Paschall finished sixth in ROY voting. Ja Morant won with 99 first-place votes. Kendrick Nunn came in second with Zion Williamson, who snagged one first-place vote, coming in third.

It should’ve then been Paschall, but Brandon Clarke is a fine pick.

He was extremely efficient and was a solid piece for Memphis. While it was just one third-place vote separating the two, Paschall should’ve finished over Chicago’s Coby White. Terence Davis II and RJ Barrett also got a few votes.

Ultimately, Paschall played well and was easily the best value pick of the 2019 NBA Draft. While his outlook is still that of a player with a limited ceiling, he should have an impactful role on a title-contending roster next season.
