3. Dubs have trade assets

Giannis Antetokounmp won’t be a free agent until the 2021 offseason. This puts an obvious speedbump in the Golden State Warriors’ hopes to acquire him. To make matters worse, the Dubs will have zero cap space to sign the two-time MVP for what he’s worth.

This means the Warriors will have to complete some form of trade in order to bring in the Greek Freak. Thankfully, they can put together a package worthy of competing with anything else the rest of the league can muster up for Giannis.

A deal won’t be done this offseason as Giannis has made it clear he isn’t going to request a trade. However, things can change quickly in the NBA and by the end of next season, he could be looking for a way out. The Warriors will have a top-two prospect from this year’s draft worth including in the package. Combine this with a future first round pick from Minnesota and some combination of Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Eric Paschall and Jordan Poole to get the deal done.

The Warriors godfather deal would be to swap Thompson and numerous picks for Giannis. This would be a tough pill to swallow for Dubs fans but the sight of Antetokounmpo running the floor with Stephen Curry should ease any pains.
