Golden State Warriors should not fear Clippers anymore

The Golden State Warriors should be relieved to see that the LA Clippers will not be a major roadblock to their championship hopes next season.

In the most shocking upset since the Golden State Warriors dropped the ball in 2016, the LA Clippers collapsed at a historic rate as the Denver Nuggets completed their second straight 3-1 comeback.

There are some stark differences between the Warriors 3-1 collapse and the Clippers. For starters, the Dubs dealt with injuries and suspensions whereas the Clippers were fully loaded for each game. Furthermore, the Clippers held double-digit leads in each elimination game – making their meltdown even more embarrassing.

However, there is one thing in specific that separates the Warriors from the Clippers and shows their true lack of heart. This is their response to losing in the second round:

Excuses were made rapidly – blaming their Game 7 loss on fatigue. How can this be a reasonable excuse from a team playing in the second round? If they felt fatigued this early into the postseason, how could they ever compete for a title?

The worst thing is what Paul George said in his press conference:

This is not the type of response you want from one of your star players. Where is the heart? Where is the accountability? George shot 4-of-16 in the decisive game and scored 0 points in the fourth quarter.

The complete lack of fire in this Clippers team during their 15 point loss in Game 7 was disheartening. From a team with so many ‘dogs’ – how did they let themselves go out this sad?

The Warriors should not be fearful of the Clippers at all next season. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green have a clear competitive edge over every member of the Clippers aside from maybe Kawhi Leonard – who also disappeared in Game 7 but has a reputation for normally showing up big in the playoffs.

While the Dubs will still have their hands full with a few other title-contending teams – they should no longer be worried about a clash with the Clippers.
