James Wiseman is a polarizing NBA Draft prospect and under the right circumstances, he could transform the Golden State Warriors.

It looks like we won’t know the Golden State Warriors‘ true intention for the NBA Draft until the event actually occurs. This makes sense – as it’s widely speculated the Dubs’ will be listening to offers for the No. 2 overall pick and hiding their hand will benefit them in potential discussions.

One player who is consistently mentioned in draft talks is James Wiseman. The top prospect played only three games in Memphis but looked strong in each appearance. In a league that is shifting towards small-ball – mostly because of the Warriors’ success – would the Dubs really benefit from drafting a big man?

Wiseman would change the Dubs’ dynamic drastically. They have never before played with a dominant center. DeMarcus Cousins nearly became their first star at this position but injuries knocked him off track before he even had a chance to be impactful.

While the center position has never been a significant weakness for the Warriors – it has always been their most vulnerable gap. This could be solved if Wiseman lives up to expectations as an elite rim protector and finisher on the other end.

The Warriors wouldn’t overhaul their system to accommodate Wiseman – but a successful rookie season from him could breed change. It would be an odd sight to see the Dubs’ dump the ball into the post and work from the inside out – but it could be exactly what they need to keep the Splash Brothers effective in the latter half of their careers.

Not to mention, his presence as a deterrent in the paint would be brand new for the Warriors. Andrew Bogut was their best shot blocker in recent years but even he never blocked more than 2 per game. This is something Wiseman can do with ease.

Wiseman brings a sense of athleticism and dominance to the five that no other player has brought to the Dubs dynasty. While he is a risky pick due to his small sample size in college and limited offensive repertoire – there is no denying Wiseman could transform the Warriors into a powerhouse once again.
